Gambhir Gets Death Threat Email, Police Investigating

New Delhi: India men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly received death threats via email, sparking serious security concerns. The incident occurred on April 22, coinciding with the Kashmir terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead, mostly tourists.

According to Delhi Police, the threat emails originated from a suspicious Gmail account and were sent to an ID associated with Gambhir. “We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is under active investigation,” said DCP (Central) M Harsha Vardhan in a statement.

The sender, identifying as “ISIS Kashmir”, reportedly sent two emails containing the chilling message: “I KILL YOU”. Authorities received an official complaint along with screenshots of the threats at Rajinder Nagar Police Station.

Security Already in Place, Investigation Intensifies

Gambhir, who is already under Delhi Police protection, previously faced similar threats in 2022. At that time, his security was enhanced, and police did not disclose specifics of the arrangements due to operational sensitivity.

An excerpt from the recent complaint reads:
“Dear Sir, Namaskar. As we spoke, please find below the ‘Threat Mails’ received on the mail ID of Mr Gautam Gambhir (Ex-MP), Head Coach Indian Cricket Team. Kindly register the FIR accordingly and ensure the safety and security of the family.”

Political Background and Public Concern

Besides his cricketing achievements, Gambhir is a former BJP MP from East Delhi, which adds a layer of political sensitivity to the situation. This latest threat has reignited public concern regarding the safety of high-profile individuals, especially those involved in politics and national representation.

Delhi Police are now working closely with cyber experts to trace the sender and determine the credibility of the threats.
