Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday, April 18, emphasized the state’s commitment to its autonomy in taking decisions. Taking a jibe at the central government, Stalin stated, “Tamil Nadu will never yield to Delhi’s administration.”

Addressing a public event in Thiruvallur, Stalin geared up his campaign against the AIADMK-BJP alliance for 2026 elections.

“Tamil Nadu will never yield to Delhi’s administration”: Stalin

“Union Minister Amit Shah says that in 2026, they will form a government. I am challenging and saying to him, Tamil Nadu will never yield to Delhi’s administration. That much uniqueness we have.

“What you do in other states by breaking parties and with raids forming the government won’t work here. Tamil Nadu is always out of control of Delhi,” he stated, according to ANI.

In addition, Stalin questioned the Home Minister Amit Shah regarding NEET and Hindi imposition.

“I want to ask Union Home Minister Amit Shah, can he give assurance to provide an exemption from NEET? Can he give assurance that you won’t impose Hindi? Will he list out the release of special funds to Tamil Nadu? Can you give your word that delimitation won’t reduce seats (of Tamil Nadu in parliamentary elections)? If we are diverting, why didn’t you give a proper response to the Tamil Nadu people?” said Stalin.

“It was you [Mr. Modi] who said States were not beggars..”

Stalin also hit back at PM Modi over his “crying for funds” remark. He reminded the PM about his statements as Gujarat CM over seeking funds from the Union government.

“With complete humility and respect, I want to remind the Prime Minister, it was you [Mr. Modi] who said that the States were not beggars to extend hands to the Union government for funds. I am only reminding you,” he stated.

He continued, “What did you speak while being the Gujarat Chief Minister? That they were running a parallel government through the Governors? Who said it then? Modi said it when he was the Gujarat Chief Minister. He said the Union government was partisan in allocating funds to States run by parties [that were in opposition to the Union government.”

Stalin claimed that Tamil Nadu is fighting for all the States in India. Earlier this week, Stalin had announced a high-level committee to strengthen State autonomy. The committee will review and recommend measures for safeguarding the rights of states, with Stalin alleging that the Union Government was infringing upon rights of the states.
