Uber Shuttle Service to Shut Down in Kolkata from April 2, 2026

The discontinuation of Uber Shuttle services in Kolkata, effective April 2, 2026, marks a significant shift in the city’s urban mobility landscape. Following an official communication distributed to its user base, Uber confirmed that the Shuttle feature will be entirely removed from the application after this date. This decision is part of a broader corporate strategy to phase out shuttle operations across India, leaving a substantial number of daily commuters, particularly office professionals, to recalibrate their transit routines on relatively short notice.

For the many residents who relied on these fixed-route services for a predictable and climate-controlled commute, the transition presents both logistical and financial challenges. The removal of this mid-tier transport option is expected to place additional strain on Kolkata’s existing public infrastructure, likely increasing congestion within the Metro network and on state-operated buses during peak hours. Furthermore, commuters who must now pivot to private ride-hailing services or traditional taxis will likely face a notable increase in their monthly transportation expenditures.

Uber has sought to mitigate the immediate financial impact on its customers by clarifying that any outstanding balances in Shuttle subscriptions will be fully refunded. However, the void left by the service remains a concern for urban planners and citizens alike. As the city prepares for this transition, alternative platforms such as CityFlo have emerged as potential private-sector solutions for those seeking a similar premium transit experience. Ultimately, the shutdown necessitates a swift adjustment to the city’s shared transport habits, as commuters return to a mix of government services, carpooling, and emerging digital platforms to bridge the gap in their daily travels.
