Ancient Jain Idols Vandalized on Pavagadh Hill; Community Outraged and Demanding Justice

On 16th June, in a despicable act of vandalism, all ancient Jain idols of Tirthankars on the stairs of Pavagadh hill in Gujarat have been brutally broken and thrown like trash. These statues, of immense value in proving the rarity of ancient Jainism, have been shamefully desecrated and have outraged the Jain community.

Accompanied by hundreds of shravaks, Jain monk Muni Shri Jinpremvijay ji M S marched to the Collector’s office in Surat, demanding immediate action. Shockingly, despite brazen confession by the criminal on a news channel, authorities have yet to make any arrests.

It has come to such a pass that even the peace-loving Jain community can’t help but come out in protest. Elaborate demonstrations and meetings will be held in Mumbai, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and other cities from 10 am onwards. The unity of the community in its message for justice and preservation of their sacred heritage comes in strongly against this barbaric act and demands prompt punitive action against the perpetrators.
