Tragedy Strikes Kota as Another Student Succumbs to Mental Health Struggles
KOTA: The city of Kota, known as an education hub and a breeding ground for competitive exam aspirants, has been struck by yet another heart-wrenching incident that underscores the dire mental health crisis faced by students seeking coaching in the region. Balmiki Jangid, an 18-year-old aspiring engineer from Gaya, Bihar, was tragically found dead in his residence late Tuesday night, sending shockwaves through the community.
Jangid, who had moved to Kota with dreams of cracking engineering entrance exams, was reportedly undergoing intensive coaching to achieve his goal. Residing at House No. 4 F 10, Mahaveer Nagar III, Kota, he was pursuing his dreams in the very heart of the educational city.
This devastating event marks the 22nd reported student suicide in Kota this year alone. This staggering number has cast a somber shadow over Kota, a city renowned for its numerous coaching institutions that attract students from all corners of the country.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Harshraj Kharra, revealed that Balmiki Jangid’s lifeless body was discovered in his residence, where he had taken his own life by hanging. While law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragedy, no suicide note has been recovered from the scene thus far.
The incident has once again ignited discussions about the tremendous pressure and mental strain that students in Kota often face due to the intense competition and demanding study routines. Educational experts, mental health professionals, and activists are raising concerns over the lack of effective mechanisms in place to support the emotional well-being of these students, who are often separated from their families and exposed to relentless academic pressure.
Parents, educators, and authorities are grappling with the urgent need to address this alarming trend. Calls for better mental health resources, counseling services, and emotional support systems within the education ecosystem are growing louder. Experts stress that academic achievements should not come at the cost of students’ mental and emotional health, emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to education that prioritizes well-rounded development.
As Kota mourns yet another young life lost to the mental health crisis, there is a collective call for action to prevent further tragedies and to create an environment where aspiring students can pursue their dreams without sacrificing their mental well-being. The incident serves as a grim reminder that the well-being of students should be a top priority in the pursuit of educational excellence.
