India’s New Parliament Building Inauguration: A Majestic Celebration Unfolds with Rituals and Dignitaries

New Delhi, May 27, 2023 – The highly anticipated inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building is all set to kick off with a meticulously planned schedule, promising a grand celebration of India’s democracy. The detailed schedule of the event has been unveiled, outlining the various rituals, speeches, and honours that will take place throughout the day.

The auspicious ceremony will commence at 7.30 am with a havan (sacred fire ritual) and puja (worship) near the iconic Mahatma Gandhi statue. A distinguished gathering of dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman, among others, will grace this solemn moment with their presence.

Following the puja, a significant installation will take place between 8.30 am and 9 am. Prime Minister Modi will personally install the historic sceptre called Sengol inside the Lok Sabha. The Sengol, a symbol of authority and power, will be placed within a glass case next to the Speaker’s seat, signifying the sanctity of the parliamentary proceedings. This momentous occasion will also pay tribute to the skilled craftsmanship of Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, who were entrusted with creating the Sengol, as well as the diligent efforts of those involved in constructing the new Parliament building.

At 9.30 am, a prayer meeting will be held, attended by eminent spiritual leaders, scholars, pundits, and saints. This gathering will seek divine blessings for the successful functioning of the new Parliament and the welfare of the nation.

The second phase of the program will commence at 12 pm with the resonating notes of the national anthem, filling the air with patriotic fervor. Attendees will be treated to the screening of two short films that encapsulate the significance and journey of the new Parliament building.

The Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha will then deliver a warm welcome address, followed by the reading of messages from the Vice President and the President, conveying their best wishes on this historic occasion.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, will address the gathering, providing a platform for diverse perspectives and fostering dialogue among representatives from various political parties.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will take the stage to deliver a speech, acknowledging the significance of the new Parliament building as a symbol of democracy and unity. Additionally, a commemorative coin and stamp will be released during the event, serving as a tangible reminder of this momentous day.

The pinnacle of the ceremony will be Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, scheduled for approximately 2.30 pm.
