16 year old found hainging , another victim of the rank hungry ecosystem
Hyderabad, India: A 16-year-old boy, Satvik hanged himself to death inside the classroom. He was studying at Sri Chaitanya Junior College in Narsingi. According to his friends, he was missing post-college hours, after which he started looking for him. After searching for hours, he was found hanging inside a classroom at around 10.30pm. After which, his friends carried him to the hospital, by taking a lift from unknowns. He was declared dead by the hospital.
Satvik’s friends claim, even after bringing this to the notice of the institution, it did not organize a vehicle, they had to seek a lift from strangers on road to rush Satvik to the Hospital.
Students of Sri Chaitanya Junior College and Satvik’s parents have been protesting, seeking strict punishment of the management of the institution.
No one knows where the hostel’s warden was.
My Take
Looking at the preliminary details emerging, the killer is nothing else but ‘stress’. In India, students of class 11 and 12 bear an immense amount of pressure from institutes, which are ‘rank hungry’, and from parents, who express their hopes of their children getting successful. While one channel of pressure comes from a ‘commercial’ angle, another comes from pure innocence and goodwill.
Commercial pressure from schools, Junior colleges, and mainly, from coaching institutions are purely motivated for ‘ranks’, which will be a mark of success for that particular institute.
Not all students can do it. Some students take up, coaching for entrance examinations for Engineering and Medical, because they are really interested in it, enjoy studying it, and are truly capable of consuming all the syllabus with pressure from the above-mentioned two channels. Also, there are students, who are forced into this race by their parents. In this group, only a few survive this race and finish it.
This is not something that the coaching institutions and schools understand. For the majority of educational institutions, all these young dreamers are ‘Customers’.
A lot of deaths happen in Kota, a city in Rajasthan known for its ‘IIT JEE and NEET ‘ coaching. More than 90% of these deaths are by suicide. The honorable speaker of the Lok Sabha, Mr. Om Birla is the elected representative of Kota.
It’s time for a lot of things to end. The mindset of ‘Mera Baccha Engineer Hi Banega’ or ‘Mera Baccha Doctor Hi Banega’ (which translates to – My child will either become an Engineer or Doctor) of parents must end. The race to rank the ideology of institutes must end. They are young souls, who have just started understanding this world and life.
