CBI chargesheet: Sunil Lulla gave ‘early IPL ratings’ to Star India, which incurred a loss of over INR 2 crore to BARC
News Tap Global accessed the contents of the chargesheet filed by the CBI in the TRP Case. The chargesheet was filed in a special CBI court in Lucknow.
CBI’s chargesheet says former BARC CEO Sunil Lulla provided early data to Star India at no cost.
BARC launched a product named PreView, through which early TRPs could have been sought with a cost. It was meant to provide early ratings of IPL matches.
The product was launched in the year 2018-19 to provide IPL ratings to channels.
This product would give data to it’s subscriber before the actual release date. The subscriber would get the data 3 to 4 days before the actual release.
The probe has also revealed that BARC under Lulla, provided Star India the early data without having Star India paying for it. This happened in September – October of 2020.
Sources in Disney Star have accepted to have recieved the data for no cost in 2020. They have said, they did not get the data from 2021 onwards.
CBI has named former CEO of BARC, Sunil Lulla in its Chargesheet. CBI has charged Lulla under various sections of the IPC, viz. 406, 420, 465 and 477A. It includes Criminal breach of trust, Cheating, Forgery and Falsification of Accounts.
Spokesperson for Lulla has refused all the charges levied on Lulla in the Chargesheet.
