Doesn't The Lockdown Restrictions Apply For The People In Power?

As the second wave of COVID-19 hit the country, many states in India announced lockdown in order to contain the spread of the virus. As the lockdown is imposed once again in many states of the country, the people must follow the rules laid down by the Government and cooperate with it. But, what about the people who have announced these restrictions and themselves not following it?

As India was just coming back to the normal situation, as the businesses were coming back on track, as the schools and colleges were getting reopened, as the daily wage workers just started earning, the second wave of COVID-19 striked the country. The coronavirus cases in the country started increasing and the oxygen crisis made the situation even worse. As the lockdown restrictions are once again brought into force by many states in the country, the people have to stay at home following the restrictions. As the common citizens are strictly made to follow the guidelines, we can see the politicians violating the rules and crowding in the public.

The question is why legislators are not being booked under Disaster Management Act or Epidemic Diseases Act for their violations, while the lockdown is being strictly enforced on common citizens. The rules are being broken by the people who themselves implement it on the common citizens.

It is true that the officers and the politicians need to travel for the inspection of their constituencies and for welfare of the people living in there, they must do so by following all the COVID-19 protocols. As the common people are doing their part by following all the guidelines issued by the Government, the people in power must also look after that they follow the protocols and contribute to stop the spread of the virus.
