Couple Found Dead, Mystery Grips Cooch Behar

A quiet corner of Cooch Behar has been shaken by a mysterious double death after a septuagenarian man was found dead inside his home and his wife was discovered in nearby bushes, raising suspicion of a violent attack.

The incident was reported from the Rampur area under Boxirhat police station in Tufanganj. The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Sunil Biswas and his 45-year-old wife, Janki Biswas. Police began investigating after Sunil’s body was found inside the couple’s residence on Sunday morning.

According to reports, Sunil had injury marks on his head, apparently caused by a sharp weapon. The discovery immediately prompted police to examine the house and surrounding area. However, the case took a more disturbing turn when Janki was found missing from the residence.

A search of the area led investigators to a patch of bushes located around 20 metres from the house, where Janki’s body was eventually found. She too reportedly had multiple injury marks. The discovery of the two bodies at separate locations has become a key focus of the investigation, with police attempting to establish exactly what happened between the couple’s last known moments and the discovery of their bodies.

The circumstances have left several questions unanswered. Investigators are trying to determine whether the couple were attacked inside the house, whether Janki was taken outside after the initial assault, or whether she managed to leave the house before being attacked. The suspected weapon has also become an important part of the investigation.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The findings could help investigators establish the cause and approximate timing of death and determine the nature of the injuries. Forensic evidence from the house and the surrounding area is also being examined as police attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The investigation has already widened, with four people detained for questioning. Their identities and their possible connection to the deaths have not been publicly disclosed. Police are continuing to question people familiar with the couple and examine circumstances that could shed light on the incident.

At this stage, the motive remains unclear. While investigators are examining different possibilities, including circumstances surrounding the couple and their family, no particular motive has been officially established. Any conclusions will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.

The unusual discovery of the bodies;  one inside the house and the other just metres away has intensified the mystery surrounding the case. As police await the post-mortem reports and continue questioning those detained, the biggest questions remain: Who attacked the couple? Why was Janki found away from the house? And what happened inside the residence before the deaths?

The incident has left the residents of Rampur deeply unsettled, with the circumstances surrounding the couple’s final hours still unclear.
