Delhi’s 9-Year Wait Ends: Barapullah Phase-III Elevated Corridor Ready After 9 Missed Deadlines

New Delhi:The long wait for Delhi residents is finally over. EAfter 9 years of delay and 9 missed deadlines, the Barapullah Phase-III Elevated Corridor has reached its final stage.

With load testing by PWD using heavy trucks set to be completed, the formal inauguration is planned for this August.

The 3.5 km long Barapullah Phase-3 Elevated Corridor and Yamuna Bridge, which missed its ninth deadline, is now undergoing final testing. Starting next week, PWD will run heavy trucks weighing over 250 tonnes across its various spans for a ‘load bearing test’. The 4-day test aims to ensure the bridge can safely carry heavy traffic.

Built over the Yamuna floodplain, this 4-lane elevated corridor will directly connect Mayur Vihar in East Delhi to Sarai Kale Khan, Jangpura, and AIIMS in South Delhi.

The project was approved in 2014 and was supposed to be completed by 2017. However, it faced repeated delays due to land acquisition disputes, environmental clearances, and disruption in bitumen supply caused by the West Asia crisis.

Inauguration Time Sought from CM Rekha Gupta
As construction nears completion, PWD has written to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta requesting a date for the formal inauguration in August. The remaining 10-meter loop near Sarai Kale Khan will also be completed within a week.

Once open, residents of Mayur Vihar, Patparganj, and Trilokpuri will get major relief from traffic jams while traveling to South Delhi. The commute will be completely signal-free and take significantly less time.
