The Fortress Fights Back: Adhir Chowdhury vs. TMC in the Baharampur Trench War

The politicking atmosphere in Murshidabad has gotten really tense in the last few days as seasoned Congress politician Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury got involved in a string of scuffles with Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters while campaigning for the upcoming elections.
These episodes, which have caused a stir among political analysts in West Bengal, reveal the increasingly fierce “Turf War” for the Baharampur constituency—a long-standing bastion of Chowdhury that now finds itself in a siege by both TMC and BJP.

It all kicked off when Chowdhury’s convoy came under attack from TMC supporters waving party symbols and chanting “Go Back” slogans. The witnesses noted how fast the tensions escalated and it took a bit of time before a human shield could be erected between the two parties.
The scene became more dramatic when Chowdhury decided to get out of the car and address the opposition head-on.

It appears that Baharampur has emerged as one of the most hotly contested constituencies in the 2026 elections. The TMC has made every effort to get rid of the “Borda” or elder brother of Murshidabad by sending local leaders into the contest.
These conflicts may well be a sign of an underlying problem between the two groups:

• Muslim Vote: Given the high percentage of Muslims in the area, TMC and Congress have been trying their best to gain control over the Muslim vote.
• BJP Candidate: It seems that the ongoing struggle between the two parties from the “INDIA” front could end up working to BJP candidate Subrata Maitra’s advantage, as he attempts to cash in on the division of the secular vote.
  
  According to reports, the Election Commission has noted this trend and has sent extra security forces to the volatile regions of Murshidabad. However, TMC’s local leaders have downplayed the conflict as nothing but spontaneous outburst of “public rage” against the development policies of Mr. Chowdhury during his long-term tenure.

As the campaign enters its final, most volatile phase, Baharampur remains a powderkeg. For Adhir Chowdhury, this isn’t just an election; it is a fight for political survival in his own backyard.
