Kolkata on Edge: Mega Projects, Political Thunder, and Gridlock as PM Modi Lands for Historic Brigade Showdown

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kolkata on Saturday, March 14, 2026, for a high-stakes event combining the launch of ₹18,680 crore in infrastructure projects with a major political rally. The major changes are the construction of more than 420 km of highways, redevelopment of railway stations as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, and the mechanisation of the Haldia Dock Complex. The tour ends up with a rally at the Brigade Parade Ground to end the BJP Parivartan Yatra before the 2026 Assembly elections. To deal with the event, Kolkata Police have adopted traffic controls between 4.00 am and 8.00 pm such as goods vehicle and wide-ranging closures along the roads in the areas of Victoria Memorial and the central business district.
