PM Modi to Address Historic Brigade Rally in West Bengal and Launch Major Development Projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Kolkata, West Bengal, today, March 14, 2026, to address a massive political rally at the Brigade Parade Grounds and inaugurate development projects worth ₹18,680 crores. This high-profile visit aims to energize the BJP’s campaign ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections and boost regional connectivity by concluding the party’s statewide ‘Parivartan Yatra’ and officially launching major multi-sector initiatives.
The Prime Minister’s afternoon rally will serve as the grand finale for the BJP’s 5,000-km ‘Parivartan Yatra’. According to State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya, the massive outreach program successfully touched 237 Assembly constituencies over the last fortnight, drawing over 10 lakh supporters. To mark the occasion, the rally stage has been uniquely designed to resemble Kolkata’s famous Kalighat temple.

While the BJP is treating this as a historic show of strength, the rival Trinamool Congress (TMC) has firmly dismissed the yatra as a “flop,” claiming it suffered from low public turnout. Ahead of this event, state leaders including Suvendu Adhikari met with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to finalize candidate lists for the highly anticipated elections.
Beyond the political spectacle, PM Modi will unveil a major administrative push through multi-sector infrastructure projects. A significant portion of the ₹18,680 crore budget—around ₹16,990 crores—is dedicated to road development. This includes over 420 km of National Highway upgrades and the foundation stone for the crucial Kharagpur–Moregram economic corridor, which is expected to cut travel time by up to eight hours.
In the railway sector, the Prime Minister will flag off the new Purulia-Anand Vihar Terminal Express and inaugurate six redeveloped stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Additionally, he will launch key shipping projects, such as the mechanization of berths at the Haldia Dock Complex, to improve trade efficiency.
This dual-purpose visit highlights a clear strategy for the upcoming elections: combining massive grassroots political mobilization with heavy infrastructure investments to win over the voters of West Bengal.
