KMC Identifies 45 Wards as Dengue Hotspots, Intensifies Surveillance

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has identified 45 wards as dengue hotspots, intensifying surveillance and fogging operations to curb the spread of the disease. The wards were identified based on the number of dengue cases reported last year, with areas having more than 25 cases marked as high-risk zones.
KMC’s chief entomologist, Debashis Biswas, stated that the corporation will focus on destroying mosquito breeding sites, spraying insecticides, and inspecting buildings to prevent waterlogging. The move comes as dengue cases in Kolkata rise, with 509 reported cases as of September 7, compared to 370 cases during the same period last year.
The KMC has also launched a cleanliness drive, with sanitation workers clearing roads, lanes, and drainage systems, and deploying mechanized sprayers for regular fogging. Residents are urged to cooperate by disposing of waste properly and preventing water accumulation.
