Agartala-Kolkata Bus Service Via Dhaka Resumes After 18-Month Hiatus

The Agartala to Kolkata passenger bus service via Dhaka has resumed after an 18-month hiatus due to political turmoil in Bangladesh.
The Royal Maitree international bus service, which connects Kolkata and Agartala through Dhaka, started operating again on February 24, 2026, with around 20 passengers on board the first bus. This service is expected to boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between India and Bangladesh, and strengthen people-to-people ties.
Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury welcomed the passengers at the Akhaura Integrated Checkpost, expressing hope that the renewed connectivity would enhance cooperation and friendship between the two neighboring nations.
