ECI’s mistake costs Bengal 1,14,772 names from the voters’ list
It has been reported that approximately 1,14,772 names on the voters list can be removed from the final voters list after the S.I.R. The documents of 1,14,772 voters’ names have not been uploaded to the central government portal for final verification. The final date for uploading all of the documents for the final review in the S.I.R. happening in all 12 states was on 14 February 2026.
According to the DEOs, all the documents had been submitted by the 114,000 people. But the AEROs and EROs failed to upload those documents in the portal on time by 14 February. Arguments have heated up on whether, if the documents were invalid, they could have been dismissed, or if the documents were genuine, then they should have been eligible for uploading in the government portal. However, according to many sources, the AEROs and EROs failed to do both, leaving 1.14 lakh voters’ names stranded. If in the final voter list these names do not get uploaded, then all those people need to reapply by Form 6.
The CEO of West Bengal, Shri Manoj Kumar, said that all the concerned AEROs and EROs involved in this mismanagement will receive a show-cause notice for public harassment and failure to comply with rules and regulations.

The AITC on their official X page stated that this is a clear attack on democracy. ‘What kind of democracy discriminates against its own voters, the very lifeblood of the republic?’ was posted on the AITC official X page.
The final voter list will be uploaded by the ECI on 21 February 2026 for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal.
