A Day Of Pride: India Celebrates 77th Republic Day

India is celebrating its 77th Republic Day today, with nationwide festivities highlighting the country’s democratic spirit and cultural richness. The main ceremonial programme is being held at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu is leading the celebrations.

The Republic Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 10:30 in the morning and continues for approximately one and a half hours. Before the parade commences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays tribute to fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.

President Murmu then arrives at Kartavya Path and receives a ceremonial salute during the march-past. The parade features contingents from the Armed Forces, Paramilitary units, Auxiliary Civil Forces, as well as cadets from NCC and NSS.

This year’s parade carries the twin themes – “Swatantrata Ka Mantra: Vande Mataram” and “Samriddhi Ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat” – reflecting the blend of patriotic legacy and the nation’s growing self-reliance.

Distinguished international leaders, President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, are attending the parade as Chief Guests.

A table of 30 tableaux representing States, Union Territories, and Central Government Ministries and Departments roll out during the event. These tableaux showcase the 150-year journey of the national song Vande Mataram alongside India’s rapid development driven by self-sufficiency across multiple sectors.

The Tri-services tableau presents the theme “Operation Sindoor: Victory Through Jointness”, symbolising the unified strength and coordination of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Seven marching contingents of the Indian Army, including the animal contingent, march past the saluting base. Additionally, 18 Army marching contingents and 13 military bands participate. For the first time, the Army also displays a Battle Array Format during the parade.

The grand spectacle concludes with an aerial display by 29 aircraft, featuring platforms such as Rafale, Su-30, C-295, MiG-29 and Apache helicopters. Adding a cultural dimension, around 2,500 artists perform to honour individuals who have contributed to nation-building and social development. Special invitees from various sections of society are invited as Government Special Guests. Nearby 10,000 Special Guests across 53 categories- including those associated with employment generation, innovation, start-ups, technology, and Self-Help Groups – witness the celebrations.
