Aadhaar Voter Ration Issues in Bihar Revision.
Bihar, September 1, 2025
BLOs in Bihar continue to upload Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration cards during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), even though the Election Commission has not listed these as valid proof documents.

BLOs face confusion during Aadhaar voter ration process
BLOs across Bihar work under strict deadlines to complete the voter list update. However, several of them upload Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration cards through the app’s “Any other document” option. This creates confusion since the Election Commission has not recognized these papers among its 11 valid documents.
Many BLOs defend their actions by pointing out that the option exists inside the app. They argue that if the Election Commission never wanted these documents, then the app should not include this feature at all. This confusion adds extra stress for officers already racing against time.
Public doubts rise over Aadhaar voter ration verification
Villagers also raise questions about the process. Several people submitted Aadhaar and ration cards believing them acceptable for voter verification. BLOs collected and uploaded these papers to avoid delays. However, residents fear that such uploads may later be rejected.
In districts like Banka, BLOs admitted they had no choice but to use this method. They highlighted how the system pressures them to complete revisions quickly, while rules remain unclear. These doubts spread among families who worry their names might vanish from the rolls.
Bihar’s larger challenge with Aadhaar voter ration records
The situation in Bihar shows how a gap between policy and ground reality affects democratic processes. The Election Commission has not revised its list of valid proofs despite repeated requests and recommendations. Still, local officers continue using Aadhaar, voter IDs, and ration cards because villagers lack the officially listed papers.
The challenge exposes flaws in implementation. On one side, the Commission wants strict adherence to law. On the other side, people depend on the documents they actually hold. Until clarity arrives, both officers and voters remain caught in uncertainty.
What lies ahead for Bihar Aadhaar upload acceptance
Experts believe the Election Commission may soon need to revisit its stance. They argue that ignoring widely held documents like Aadhaar and ration cards limits inclusiveness. The Supreme Court earlier suggested recognizing these papers, but no final order has followed.
If Bihar’s confusion continues, the issue could surface in other states too. BLOs demand clearer directions, while villagers want assurance their documents remain valid. The matter is not just about bureaucracy—it directly affects the right to vote.
