Over 100 Leaders Consulted as BJP Seeks Successor to J.P. Nadda

In BJP's Hunt For New Party Boss, 100 Leaders Consulted, Decision Soon: Sources

Party Leadership Transition Underway

The Bharatiya Janata Party has started a major consultation process to select its new national president. Senior leaders confirmed that the party, along with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has already spoken with more than 100 leaders. These discussions include former BJP presidents, senior Union ministers, and key state figures. The leadership change has gained urgency because J.P. Nadda’s extended term is nearing its end.

Focus on State Units and Elections

The BJP has linked the timing of the new appointment with state unit elections. The party wants at least 19 of its 36 state and Union Territory units to have elected presidents before moving ahead. Leaders believe that a stronger state structure will help the new national president begin with a solid organisational base. At the same time, preparations for Bihar elections have added pressure on the party to complete the transition quickly.

RSS Role in Consultations

The RSS has played a central role in the ongoing consultations. Its functionaries have held several rounds of discussions with BJP leaders to assess the mood within the organisation. The Sangh believes that a consensus choice will keep the party united and ready for upcoming challenges. By including the RSS in the process, the BJP seeks to maintain close coordination with its ideological parent body.

Impact of Vice-Presidential Election

The upcoming vice-presidential election on September 9 has also influenced the timeline. Party insiders revealed that the leadership wants to finish the organisational changes after this crucial vote. Leaders argued that multiple political events at the same time could stretch the party’s resources. Therefore, the new president is likely to take charge once the election concludes.

J.P. Nadda’s Extended Tenure

J.P. Nadda continues to serve as national president even after his official term ended. The party first extended his tenure to ensure continuity during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Later, the leadership gave him another extension to maintain organisational stability. However, leaders now agree that a smooth handover will strengthen the party ahead of state and national contests.

Path Ahead for the BJP

The BJP leadership will finalise the choice for the next president once the consultations end. Senior leaders expect the announcement before the Bihar election dates are declared. With multiple state elections approaching, the party aims to project a fresh organisational face. The leadership believes that the new president will carry forward the momentum built under Nadda and prepare the BJP for future challenges.
