AIFF Rejects Mohun Bagan’s Allegations of Subhasish Bose’s Injury
20 August-Kolkata, India: The Kolkata-based iconic club Mohun Bagan Super Giants claims that their club captain, Subhashish Bose, and an important member of the Indian national football team subsequently suffered injuries during a national game, but the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) later denied the allegations.
The AIFF issued a detailed report to the Kolkata giants, correcting that Bose subsequently injured himself during the Indian Super League (ISL) final match between Mohun Bagan Super Giants and Bengaluru FC. He didn’t sustain any kind of injury during the Asia qualifying match between India and Bangladesh.
MBSG claims refused by AIFF
To show medical proof, the AIFF referred to the national team’s medical department. M Satyanarayan, the deputy general secretary of AIFF, said, “The team did not injure Subhasish Bose during the AFC Asian Cup โ 2027 qualifier match vs Bangladesh on March 25th, 2025 in Shillong, where he played 85 minutes and the coach substituted him on a tactical decision and not due to any injury.”
He further added that “After that, he played full time in both legs of the ISL semifinals on April 3rd and 7th respectively and played 90 minutes in the ISL final on April 12th, where the coach substituted him. He attended the National Team camp on 18th May 2025 and after 1-2 training sessions, he complained of right groin discomfort.”
But the AIFF complained that the Kolkata-based club didn’t mention Bose’s injury to the national federation.
AIFF on Bose’s injury
The AIFF stated that “After the injury, what he did was taking rest only and attended the camp with a lay-off of more than a month. The club did not conduct any investigations or rehab during that period. They did not inform the national team medical department or the support staff. โWhen he started to have mild discomfort, they reduced his load, gave him rest from training for five days along with treatments, and provided separate sessions for rehab.โ
According to the AIFF, he was withdrawn from the camp on June 5, 2025, on medical advice because of ongoing discomfort and injury risk, even though his symptoms had improved and the coach had wanted him to play in the AFC Asian Cup qualifier on June 9.
They added that the medical team was monitoring his progress during rehabilitation with his club.
MBSG official refuses the statement
The AIFF officially explained the matter after an MBSG official previously informed PTI that an injury sustained by Captain Subhasish Bose during India’s Asian Cup qualification match against Bangladesh sidelined him.
The MBSG official further said “Look at Boseโฆ Heโs under rehab, missed the entire season so far, we are paying his salary, and yet the federation hasnโt even called once to inquire about him,โ He said. โUnless it is a FIFA international window, it is not mandatory for the club to release its players as there is no compensation in case of injury. Hence, we are not releasing anyone for this campโฆ Every time they take our players, three or four of them return injured, and the AIFF is least bothered to communicate, compensate, or even check on them.”
