Monorail Stalls During Downpour

Heavy rain lashed Mumbai on Tuesday evening and disrupted monorail services. A train came to a halt between Chembur and Bhakti Park around 6:15 pm. Nearly 200 passengers remained trapped inside for over two hours as the rain continued.

Rescue Teams Launch Operation

The Mumbai Fire Brigade arrived quickly with support from the BMC and police. Teams used three hydraulic ladders to reach the stranded coaches. They broke several windows to allow ventilation and then started evacuating passengers safely.

Passengers Face Suffocation

Inside the monorail, passengers struggled with rising heat and lack of air. Many waved clothes and papers to cool themselves. Some passengers felt suffocated and required medical attention. Ambulances waited at the spot and shifted those in discomfort to hospitals.

Officials Cite Power Failure

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority explained that a sudden power supply failure stopped the train. Technical teams reached the site but heavy rainfall delayed the repair. Officials described the issue as minor but admitted that the rescue operation took time because of the location.

CM Orders Probe and Precautions

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that all passengers were safe. He ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured strict action if the probe found lapses. He also directed agencies to strengthen emergency response during the monsoon. Meanwhile, Mumbai continued to battle waterlogging, transport delays, and widespread chaos due to the heavy downpour.
