BJP Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Poll Fraud’ Allegations
Rahul Gandhi Raises Serious Accusations
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently triggered a political storm after alleging electoral fraud in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. During a press interaction, he claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had influenced the electoral process and manipulated results in certain constituencies. He also raised doubts about the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
BJP Labels Allegations as Irresponsible
In response, BJP leaders launched a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi. They accused him of undermining Indiaโs democratic institutions without presenting any concrete evidence. BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that Rahul Gandhi’s comments were not only misleading but also damaging to public trust in the electoral process. The party emphasized that India holds free and fair elections under the watch of the Election Commission.
“Donโt Insult Voters’ Mandate”, Says BJP
The BJP further criticized Rahul Gandhi for what they called an “insult to the peopleโs mandate.” Union Minister Anurag Thakur argued that the voters had made their choice through a legitimate democratic process. He warned that baseless allegations from a national leader could polarize public opinion and weaken the confidence of citizens in democratic outcomes.
Congress Stands by Its Claim
Despite the BJPโs strong rebuttal, the Congress party stood firm. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh defended Rahul Gandhiโs statement and said the party would continue to question the integrity of the election system if any irregularities surfaced. He reiterated the demand for cross-verification of EVMs using Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips to ensure transparency.
Election Commission Maintains Silence
So far, the Election Commission of India has not issued any formal response to the allegations. However, sources within the commission suggest that officials see no basis for claims of tampering or fraud. The commission has consistently maintained that Indiaโs electoral machinery functions under strict security protocols and legal scrutiny.
A Growing Rift in Political Discourse
As the political temperature rises, the divide between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress continues to widen. BJP leaders have called on Rahul Gandhi to either present evidence or withdraw his accusations. Meanwhile, Congress leaders insist that raising questions does not equate to attacking democracy but rather upholding it.
