Kangana Ranaut Criticizes Rahul Gandhi Following Supreme Court’s Rebuke on Army Remarks
NEW DELHI – BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after the Supreme Court made critical observations regarding his past remarks about the Indian Army. The apex court was hearing a defamation case against Gandhi stemming from comments he made during the 2022 Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he alleged that the Chinese Army had “thrashed” Indian jawans in Arunachal Pradesh.
While staying the defamation proceedings, a bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih questioned the basis of Gandhi’s claims and his decision to make them in a public forum rather than in Parliament. Justice Datta was quoted as saying, “If you were a true Indian, you would not say all this.” The court’s rebuke centered on the appropriateness and factual basis of a leader’s statements, especially concerning sensitive matters of national security.
In response, Kangana Ranaut took to a press conference to hit back at Gandhi, accusing him of consistently speaking against India and having an “anti-India mindset.” She alleged that the Congress leader “speaks in support of enemy nations,” and welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention, stating it was a “welcome move that they pull him up.” The actress-turned-politician emphasized that leaders must be mindful not to “hurt the honor, integrity, and morale of India.”
The remarks by the Supreme Court and Ranaut’s subsequent comments have reignited a political debate over the balance between a leader’s freedom of speech and their responsibility to uphold national morale, particularly in matters of defense and border security. The case against Gandhi was filed by a former Border Roads Organisation director who alleged that the statements were false and intended to demoralize the armed forces.
