Former MP Prajwal Revanna, who was recently convicted in a rape case by a Bengaluru court.

Court Convicts Prajwal Revanna on August 1

A special court in Bengaluru convicted former Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The court found him guilty in one of the four rape cases filed against him. The case involved the sexual assault of a 47-year-old domestic worker.

The woman worked at Revanna’s farmhouse in Holenarasipura. She filed the complaint in April 2024, accused Revanna of raping her multiple times. She said that he threatened to release private videos if she spoke to anyone.

FIR Registered Under Multiple IPC Sections

The Karnataka Police registered the FIR under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. These included rape (Section 376), criminal intimidation (Section 506), voyeurism (Section 354C), and transmission of obscene material (Section 67 IT Act).

Court Reviewed Digital and Forensic Evidence

The court reviewed digital and forensic evidence. The GSM lab confirmed that explicit videos were transferred from Revanna’s phone to his driver’s phone. The court relied on these records to establish digital traces of the crime.

The driver who received the videos gave a statement. Other staff members from the farmhouse also testified. The court examined the role of devices used in recording and transferring the videos.

26 Witnesses Presented by Prosecution

The prosecution brought in 26 witnesses. These included digital forensics experts, law enforcement officers, and the victim herself. The court recorded all testimonies over several hearings.

Investigators recovered more than 2,900 obscene video clips. Officials said many of these videos involved different women. The footage allegedly came from Revanna’s devices.

This conviction is from the first of four rape complaints filed against Revanna. Investigations continue in the other three cases. Charges in the pending cases are similar and include non-consensual recording and threats.

Revanna Remained in Custody During Trial

Revanna did not receive bail throughout the trial. The court denied his first bail plea in June 2024. The court rejected his second bail request on July 25, 2025. The judge said releasing him could influence the case and disturb public order.

Court Postponed Verdict Earlier

The court earlier postponed the verdict from July 30 to August 1. The judge sought additional clarification on the forensic analysis and mobile data reports. After receiving the final documents, the court delivered its verdict on Thursday.

The court has not yet announced the sentence. Sentencing will take place in the next hearing. Revanna remains in judicial custody. Authorities have placed him under high-security watch due to the seriousness of the charges.

The case drew widespread attention due to Revanna’s political background. Rights groups and opposition parties demanded a speedy trial. Many asked for a broader inquiry into how the videos were recorded and distributed.
