Exams Cancelled for Political Rally: West Bengal School Sparks Outrage Over Student Neglect
A major controversy has erupted in West Bengal after Dalkhola High School in North Dinajpur cancelled its internal examinations on April 6, 2026, to make way for a political rally, raising serious concerns about the priority given to education during the election period. The school exam was cancelled due to a public meeting by TMC MP Deepak Adhikari (Dev) as he campaigned for party candidate Goutam Paul in the Karandighi constituency ahead of the elections. The decision was reportedly taken by the school authorities, including the headmaster and managing committee, who allowed the school premises to be used for the political gathering.
The scenario caused confusion and frustration among students, with most of them reporting to school ready to take their exams only to find out that they had been cancelled without any prior warning. According to eyewitness reports, students had to wait hours before being requested to go home, which caused frustration, confusion, and a definite waste of precious academic time. The exams were cancelled mainly due to the fact that the school ground was occupied with the rally and security personnel were reported to have taken over several classrooms and it was not possible to carry out examinations in a conducive environment.
