Rizwan Haider, a 21-year-old second-year MBBS student from Loni in Ghaziabad, remains missing in Tehran after a missile strike.

On Tuesday afternoon, Rizwan briefly contacted his family and informed them that his hostel had collapsed. He had stepped out for lunch and returned to find the building in ruins.

Since then, he has not called back. His phone and laptop were reportedly destroyed in the blast. His family has heard nothing since Tuesday evening.

Family Seeks Urgent Action for Indian Student Stranded in Iran

Rizwan’s mother, Yaman Rani, has pleaded for urgent help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs. “My son’s life is in danger. He managed to call once after the blast. Now we do not know if he is alive,” she said.

Rizwan’s father, Mohammad Ali, a local grocery shop owner, added that the family chose Iran for medical studies due to affordability. He said, “We never imagined a war zone. We just wanted him to become a doctor. Now, we just want him back alive.”

The family has reached out to local authorities, but so far has not received any confirmed updates from the embassy in Tehran.

Operation Sindhu Begins, But Many Remain

India launched Operation Sindhu on June 18 to rescue nationals stranded in Iran. The first batch of 110 students arrived in New Delhi from Tehran via Yerevan, Armenia, early Thursday morning.

However, Rizwan’s name was not among the passengers. His parents remain anxious and confused. They worry that their son may be stranded in an unsafe area without shelter or communication access. No local authority or embassy official has assured them of Rizwan’s status or timeline for his possible return.

Multiple Indian Students Still Missing Across Iran

Rizwan is one of many Indian students still unaccounted for in conflict-affected areas of Iran. Several students, including those from Jammu and Kashmir, have reported mental trauma, lack of basic supplies, and frequent alarms.

Missile strikes have impacted several campuses, including hostels like Hujjat Dost Ali. Most students have taken shelter in nearby hotels or with locals, waiting for further instructions from the Indian Embassy.

Rising Demand for Accountability and Transparency

Families across India are demanding more transparency in the evacuation process. Several parents say they have registered their children’s details with the Ministry of External Affairs but received no response.

Rizwan’s uncle stated, “The government must inform families about where students are and what steps they are taking.” Meanwhile, families gather each day in local offices and police stations, hoping for news.

The last message Rizwan sent mentioned the destruction of his belongings and lack of mobile access. With no working number and unreliable networks, families rely solely on embassy updates and media reports.

This lack of direct communication has caused severe mental distress. Rizwan’s mother has reportedly fainted twice since Tuesday and remains under medical supervision. “Every hour feels like a year,” she told reporters, clinging to her son’s ID card.

What the Government Has Promised

According to official statements, Indian officials in Tehran are working with local authorities to identify and rescue all remaining students. Evacuees are being moved by land to Armenia, then flown to India in groups.

Authorities have confirmed that more flights will follow this weekend. However, no detailed passenger lists have been released. Local administration in Ghaziabad has reached out to the External Affairs Ministry with Rizwan’s passport and university details.
