Who is Jyoti Malhotra? Known for her YouTube channel “Travel with Jo,” 33-year-old travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra from Hisar, Haryana has been arrested by the Haryana Police on suspicion of espionage. With over 3.77 lakh subscribers on YouTube and nearly 1.3 lakh Instagram followers, Malhotra is accused of leaking sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence officers. Authorities claim Malhotra went to Pakistan in 2023, where she met with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, a former official at the Pakistan High Commission, and made relationships with Pakistani intelligence operatives. Studies indicate that she kept these contacts and disseminated sensitive information, including facts regarding Indian Army movements in Haryana and Punjab, through encrypted messaging channels like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Snapchat upon her return to India. More stories suggest Malhotra’s trips to Pakistan were supported and she may have had personal relationships with a Pakistani intelligence official named Danish. Meetings at the Pakistan High Commission and a shared visit to Bali, Indonesia, were among these contacts. Malhotra has been arrested under the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities are also looking into possible contacts between Malhotra and other Indian travel influencers as well as investigating a possible espionage connection with a YouTuber living in Puri, Odisha. The inquiry is still open, and more people could be under suspicion for engaging in espionage activities.
