Shocking Assault on Dalit Youth in Rajasthan Exposes Deep-Rooted Caste Violence

In a horrifying incident in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, a 19-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly beaten, sexually assaulted, and urinated upon by two men on April 8, 2025, in the Fatehpur area. According to police reports, the attackers also recorded the assault and threatened to share the video online if the victim spoke out. The incident, reported by PTI and other sources, came to light only after the victim’s family lodged a complaint on April 16, 2025, due to the trauma and fear that silenced the young man for eight days.
The victim stated that the accused, who were intoxicated, lured him to a bus stand under the pretense of work while he was watching a wedding procession in his village. They took him to a secluded spot, attacked his private parts, forced him to strip, and subjected him to unnatural sex, all while hurling casteist slurs. The police, led by Deputy Superintendent Arvind Kumar, have registered a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, conducted a medical examination, and recorded the victim’s statement. The investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been reported yet.
This brutal assault raises serious questions about the persistence of caste-based violence in India, despite legal protections like the SC/ST Act. The delay in filing the FIR points to a troubling reality: victims of caste atrocities often face intimidation and stigma, discouraging them from seeking justice promptly. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully criticized the BJP-led state government, accusing it of failing to curb such atrocities. Jully called the incident a “shameful reality” that exposes the deteriorating law and order situation in Rajasthan.
The timing of the incident is particularly striking, as it occurred while Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma was visiting the Shekhawati region, including Sikar. Gehlot urged Sharma to meet the victim and assure him of government support, highlighting the need for accountability at the highest levels. Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra also condemned the BJP, calling its slogan of “Sabka Saath” an empty promise for Dalits, who continue to face humiliation and oppression.
This case is not an isolated one. Recent reports indicate a rise in atrocities against Dalits across India. For instance, a 12-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped in Agra on April 18, 2025, and a Dalit woman was raped and murdered in Ayodhya in February 2025. These incidents underline a systemic issue: the vulnerability of marginalized communities and the slow pace of justice.
The Sikar assault demands more than just an investigation. It calls for a broader reckoning with caste prejudice and the failure of authorities to protect the most vulnerable. Why do such crimes persist in a state that claims progress? Is the government’s commitment to Dalit welfare merely rhetorical? As the nation watches, the Rajasthan government must act swiftly to deliver justice and address the root causes of caste violence.
