Karnataka’s Ex-DGP Om Prakash Murdered: Wife Detained in Bengaluru

Retired DGP and IGP of Karnataka, Om Prakash’s Death Under Suspicion; Wife, Pallavi detained for investigation.

Bengaluru : Former Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police ( IGP) of Karnataka, Om Prakash, was found dead at his residence in HSR layout in bengaluru on Sunday evening, April 20. The 68-year-old retired IPS officer’s body bore multiple stab wounds, leading authorities to suspect homicide. Pallavi, his wife, has been detained by the police for questioning regarding the incident.

According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, Om Prakash was discovered in a pool of blood around 5:30 PM. Preliminary investigations suggest that the injuries were caused by stabbing, although official confirmation is pending.

Reports indicate that Pallavi had sent a WhatsApp message earlier, alleging that her husband was roaming the house with a firearm and intended to harm her.

Om Prakash, a native of Champaran, Bihar, was a 1981-batch IPS officer with a Master’s degree in Geology. He began his career as an Additional Superintendent of Police in Harapanahalli and served in various capacities, including Superintendent of Police in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru. He also held positions in the Lokayukta, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Appointed as the state’s DGP and IGP on March 1, 2015, he retired in 2017 after nearly two years in the role.

Senior police officials have visited the crime scene, and a case has been registered at the HSR Layout Police Station. The body has been shifted to St Johnโ€™s Hospital for autopsy.
