Gujarat Coast Guard Seizes 300kg of Methamphetamine
Ahmedabad : In a significant breakthrough against international drug trafficking, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) carried out a high-stakes joint operation on the night of April 12–13, 2025, resulting in the seizure of over 300 kg of suspected methamphetamine—a consignment estimated to be worth ₹1,800 crore.
The operation, conducted in the Arabian Sea near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), was triggered by a corroborated intelligence input received from the Gujarat ATS. Responding immediately, an ICG ship from the Coast Guard Region (West), already on a multi-mission deployment off the North Maharashtra–South Gujarat coast, altered its course to intercept a suspicious vessel attempting a transshipment near the IMBL.
“Upon seeing the approaching Coast Guard ship, the smugglers, who were on a boat, dumped the contraband into the sea and fled across the IMBL” the release said.

During the operation, the proximity of the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and the initial distance between the Indian Coast Guard ship and the suspect boat allowed the smugglers to quickly cross into international waters, evading interception. However, the Coast Guard team deployed a smaller sea boat and, despite challenging night-time conditions, successfully recovered the narcotics dumped into the sea.
“The seized narcotics have been brought to Porbandar by the ICG ship for further investigations,” the release said.
This operation marks the 13th successful joint effort between the Indian Coast Guard and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad. The continued coordination between the two agencies underscores their commitment to strengthening maritime security and countering cross-border criminal activities.
