Decoding the ‘Concrete’ Plot Behind Merchant Navy Officer’s Murder in Meerut

On March 4, 2025, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, someone brutally murdered Saurabh Rajput, a 29-year-old former Merchant Navy officer. Investigators later discovered his dismembered body inside a cement-filled drum, shocking the local community. His wife, Muskaan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla, allegedly planned and carried out the crime. Suspicion arose when Saurabh’s sudden disappearance worried his family, prompting a police investigation that led to the shocking truth.
A Troubled Marriage
Saurabh had resigned from his well-paying Merchant Navy job to spend more time with his wife, Muskaan. However, their marriage soon turned sour when he discovered her affair with his close friend, Sahil. Despite considering a divorce, he decided to stay in the marriage for the sake of their young daughter. Struggling with financial difficulties, he moved to London in 2023 to work at a bakery, returning to India in February 2025 for his daughter’s birthday. However, his presence only reignited tensions between him and Muskaan, ultimately leading to his tragic fate.
The Brutal Murder
On March 4, 2025, Saurabh returned home with a dish of ‘lauki ke kofte’ prepared by his mother. Muskaan and Sahil took advantage of the situation and allegedly mixed sedatives into his food. Once he was unconscious, Sahil stabbed him to death while Muskaan helped dispose of the body. They then dismembered his corpse into nearly 15 pieces, placed the remains in a plastic drum, and filled it with cement to cover their crime. They stored the drum in a rented apartment in Indira Nagar, Meerut, to conceal the gruesome act.
Discovery and Investigation
As days passed without any sign of Saurabh, his family grew anxious and filed a missing person report. The police, following the trail of his last known movements, grew suspicious of Muskaan and Sahil. Their inconsistent statements raised further doubts. Eventually, a foul odor from a rented apartment led investigators to the cement-filled drum containing Saurabh’s remains. With mounting evidence against them, both Muskaan and Sahil broke down during interrogation and confessed to the crime.
Legal Proceedings and Public Outrage
Court Appearance and Custody
On March 19, 2025, authorities presented the accused before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court, which remanded them to 14 days of judicial custody.
Violence Outside the Court
As officers took them into custody, a group of enraged lawyers attacked them, tearing Sahil’s clothes in a fit of anger. The police had to step in to restore order and ensure their safety.
Impact and Public Reaction
This horrifying case has sparked nationwide discussions about infidelity, domestic violence, and the lengths to which people go when driven by greed and betrayal.
