JD(S) Leader HD Kumaraswamy Charts Path of Revitalization: Plans Major Party Restructuring After Poll Setback

After a disappointing performance in the Karnataka Assembly polls, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy has revealed plans to undertake a significant restructuring of the party. Kumaraswamy, the former chief minister, stated that JD(S) National President and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has proposed the formation of a high-level committee representing all communities to bolster the party’s strength.

Addressing reporters, Kumaraswamy expressed the party’s intention to allocate responsibilities based on communities, as per the guidance of their national president. The aim is to establish trust among the people and fortify the party by implementing changes and restructuring.

Discussions have already commenced with leaders from all 30 districts as part of the restructuring process. Kumaraswamy emphasized the need for these discussions to determine the party’s future course of action. Meanwhile, JD(S) emerged a distant third in the Assembly polls, securing only 19 seats out of a total of 224. In the wake of this defeat, the party’s state president, CM Ibrahim, and youth wing chief, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, have tendered their resignations, which are yet to be accepted.

Taking stock of the situation, JD(S) chief Deve Gowda has called for a meeting with party leaders to assess the Assembly poll results, discuss party organization and strengthening strategies, and consider restructuring taluk and district units wherever necessary. These efforts are in preparation for upcoming zilla, taluk, and corporation polls, as well as the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Kumaraswamy stated that the JD(S) would monitor whether the Congress government fulfills its promises regarding irrigation projects in the state and other poll guarantees made before the elections. He added that if the government takes appropriate steps to implement these promises, the JD(S) would offer its support. However, if the promises are not fulfilled, the party will responsibly serve as an opposition by creating awareness among the people.

Kumaraswamy also criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for accusing the opposition of spreading false information about guarantee schemes to incite the public. He argued that it was Siddaramaiah who misled the people by introducing conditions for implementing the guarantees after the elections, without prior mention.

In conclusion, Kumaraswamy urged the Siddaramaiah government to fulfill its promises to the people and translate them into action. The JD(S) leader emphasized the importance of the government’s commitment and called for concrete steps to be taken for the benefit of the electorate.
