Gill’s Masterclass and Rabada’s Speed See Gujarat Titans Overcome KKR in an Exciting Win

A clinic in clinical T20 cricket was put up at the Narendra Modi Stadium as the Gujarat Titans (GT) kept alive their impressive record in IPL 2026 by thrashing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets in what could be termed as a mismatch. While the KKR failed to pick up their first win in IPL 2026 after five games, Gujarat’s clinical bowlers and elegant bat play by Shubman Gill left no chance for the former to mount a fight back.

Siraj took wickets immediately, but Rabada made use of the additional bounce to destroy the middle order of KKR, reducing them to 32/3 before the end of the power play. The only saving grace for the Knight Riders on the day was Cameron Green, who played with grit and determination, scoring 79 runs off 55 deliveries with seven fours and four huge sixes. But despite his efforts, along with a brief contribution from Rovman Powell at the end, KKR succumbed to a total of 180 runs on the final delivery of their innings.

Gill, Titans’ Hero and the Climax of the Chase:
In the chase of 181, Gujarat Titans were always on course. Skipper Shubman Gill was leading the team by example, proving his worth as one of the best anchors of T20 cricket. Gill scored 86 off 50 balls, which included four fours and eight sixes, showing that the young player knows how to hit and place the ball according to the situation. Gill and Jos Buttler made a quick opening partnership, with Buttler scoring 25 runs, keeping the required run rate low from the very first over.

However, the Knight Riders did have a small resurgence in the middle overs with the help of Varun Chakaravarthy’s “mystery spin,” which took two wickets, one being that of Gill in the 17th over. But for a few minutes, tension filled the air due to an increasing required run rate. Nevertheless, Glenn Phillips’ experience and the coldness in the veins of Rahul Tewatia helped the team not fall flat in the latter overs. These two players handled their part in the last overs excellently, with proper shot rotation and taking boundaries in the correct moment. With a score of 181/5 in 19.4 overs, GT successfully clinched victory with two deliveries remaining.
