UAE Shuts Tehran Embassy After Iranian Missile Barrage; Dubai On High Alert

The United Arab Emirates has closed its embassy in Tehran and pulled out its ambassador and diplomatic staff after Iranian missile and drone attacks targeted the country, authorities confirmed Sunday. The Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems intercepted the incoming barrage, which officials reported that two people in Dubai were injured by falling debris but are now in stable condition. Residents have been urged to remain indoors and follow safety instructions from Dubai Police and Civil Defence.

The flare-up comes amid widening regional retaliation following reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed during joint U.S. – Israeli military operations a day earlier. In a sharp condemnation, the UAE’s foreign ministry described the strikes as a reckless escalation that targeted civilian areas – including residential zones, airports and ports – and said they violated sovereignty and international law.

As tensions rose, daily life in Dubai slowed noticeably. Roads appeared unusually empty, supermarkets saw long queues and delayed deliveries, and some shelves were left sparsely stocked. The Ministry of Human Resources advised private companies to implement remote work until Tuesday as the country remains on high alert.
