Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the leaders of Israel and Lebanon may speak on Thursday.

According to his statement, the proposed interaction is intended to ease tensions in the region. Reports suggest that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun could be involved, although neither government has officially confirmed that the talks are scheduled.

Tensions Continue Along the Border

The announcement comes at a time when the Israel–Lebanon border remains tense. Clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon have continued, affecting both infrastructure and civilian life. Reports from the region indicate displacement of residents and disruption to daily routines in border communities.

These developments are part of a wider regional situation involving the United States and Iran. While there have been efforts to maintain ceasefires in parts of the region, the overall situation remains uncertain, with multiple points of tension still active.

Historically, communication between Israel and Lebanon has been limited and typically conducted through intermediaries. Direct contact at the leadership level has been rare due to longstanding political and military differences.

Uncertainty Around the Proposed Talks

Despite the statement, there is no clear confirmation that the talks will take place. Lebanese officials have indicated that they are not aware of any planned conversation, and there has been no formal response from Israeli authorities.
Such gaps between public statements and official confirmation are not uncommon in situations involving ongoing conflict and sensitive diplomacy. Announcements may precede formal arrangements, or discussions may take place through unofficial or indirect channels before being acknowledged publicly with confirmation awaited from both sides.
