Kashmir Under Curbs, Lal Chowk Sealed; Schools Shut Amid Protests Over Khamenei’s Death

In the region of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have imposed heightened security measures, with the aim to seal of key areas, including Lal Chowk and shutting colleges in schools as protests erupted following the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The demonstrations started after the news spread that Khamenei was actually killed in an alleged joint strike by the Israel and United States. Thousands of residants from that area, particularly from the Shia Muslim community took to the streets in cities like Srinagar and nearby districts. They raised slogans against Israel and US and also expressed grief over the leaders death.

As the large gatherings were increasing, in response to that, the local authorities restricted mobile internet services across parts of the valley to curb any kind of misinformation and maintain public order, it is announced that a two day closure of educational institutions will be followed as a precautionary step .

Also, the security forces are deployed in most sensitive zones to keep situation under control, even the Jammu Kashmir chief minister, Omar Abdullah appealed for calmness, urging this communities to avoid actions that could escalate tensions. Region remains on alert as the situation continues to evolve and the officials are monitoring development and periodically reassessing restrictions.
