WB School Head, 7 Suspended for Beating Up Exam Officer

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has suspended the headmaster of Ajhapur High School in East Burdwan and seven other staff members for assaulting a Madhyamik Centre officer who detected a mobile phone at the exam venue.

The incident occurred during the Class 10 board exam, and the officer, Prashanta Kabiraj, sustained injuries to his right eye. The WBBSE has launched an investigation, and the CCTV footage is being reviewed, although 11 minutes of footage is missing.

The suspended staff members include six teachers and one Group D staff member, and they have been suspended pending inquiry. The WBBSE president, Ramanuj Ganguly, stated that the decision was taken considering the seriousness of the incident and issues of discipline.

Former students and villagers are shocked by the incident, with one former student, Soumik Dutta, expressing shame and questioning how teachers could assault an examination officer. There are also allegations that the CCTV footage of the incident has been erased.
