Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Dies in Plane Crash

Pune : Senior political leader Ajit Anantrao Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a prominent Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) figure, has passed away in a tragic plane crash this morning. The chartered aircraft he was traveling in crash-landed while attempting to land at Baramati Airport, his hometown area in the Pune district. Alongside Pawar, multiple people on board were killed, including crew and passengers, with initial reports indicating around four to five fatalities in total.

According to administrative sources, the accident occurred around 8:45 AM on Wednesday. He had attended an important cabinet meeting in the state just the previous night. This morning, he set out in a chartered aircraft towards his own constituency and stronghold, Baramati.

The aircraft was supposed to land at Baramati Airport. However, right at the final moment of landing, it suddenly lost control a short distance from the runway and crashed nose-first in the hilly area. The plane caught fire within moments.

As soon as news of the crash was received, the local administration and rescue teams rushed to the site. However, due to the hilly terrain and the intensity of the fire, the rescue operations faced extreme difficulties. A high-level investigation has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the disaster whether it was mechanical failure or weather-related.

Meanwhile, Baramati MP and Ajit Pawar’s cousin sister Supriya Sule has left for Maharashtra from Delhi, even though she was scheduled to attend Parliament’s Budget Session today. At the same time, according to the latest reports, Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar and their son Parth Pawar have also departed for Baramati.
