West Bengal Winter Updates:
An intense cold wave has tightened its grip since nightfall, set to severely impact Bengal. Which districts will experience the chilling flow of icy winds?

Winter is set to tighten its grip on West Bengal once again. According to the Alipore Meteorological Department’s forecast, minimum temperatures across the state are gradually falling, while daytime maximum temperatures will remain significantly below normal. From Monday onward, intense cold has been felt in several parts of Bengal, and the state is expected to struggle with severe cold conditions for at least the next week.

The Meteorological Department has said that temperatures in many districts of the state may drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three to four days. In the districts of South Bengal, daytime temperatures will remain 2 to 4 degrees below normal. Due to the impact of cold winds, the feeling of winter is expected to intensify further during the mornings and nights, the weather office added.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned of dense fog in three districts of North Bengal, including Darjeeling. In some areas, visibility may drop below 50 metres. A dense fog alert has also been issued for parts of Birbhum and Paschim Bardhaman in South Bengal. As a result, commuters have been advised to exercise special caution while travelling during the early morning hours.

There is a possibility of rainfall in the North Bengal districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri. Additionally, snowfall may occur in the higher reaches of Darjeeling, according to the weather office. If snowfall takes place in areas such as Sandakphu and Ghum, the cold is expected to intensify further.

According to weather experts, a western disturbance currently active over Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir, and the north-western Himalayan region, along with a cyclonic circulation over eastern Bangladesh, is allowing cold air to enter the state. As a result, temperatures are dropping rapidly.

The impact of winter is also expected to intensify across South Bengal. From Sunday itself, temperatures began falling in several districts, with the chill becoming more pronounced on Monday morning. From Tuesday onward, the cold is likely to become even more severe. In particular, western districts such as Birbhum, Jhargram, Paschim Bardhaman, and Paschim Medinipur are expected to experience biting cold over the next few days. Overall, the dominance of cold and fog is likely to continue in West Bengal for the coming days.
