Liverpool’s Record Transfer To Make Delayed Debut, Confirms Slot
13 September-Kolkata, India: Liverpool’s Dutch manager, Arne Slot, gives a huge update on Liverpool’s biggest signing of the season, Alexander Isak. Slot praised the Swedish striker and named him “maybe the best striker in the world“. The Dutch manager also revealed that Liverpool’s biggest signing will not play a match for 90 minutes straight.
The Current English Premier League (EPL) holders signed the Swedish striker from Newcastle United for a whopping fee of $169 million on the last day of the summer transfer window. Liverpool fans hope to see the debut of the Swedish striker, but Liverpool’s Dutch manager hinted that the fans need to be patient to see Isak in Liverpool colours.
Slot On Isak’s debut
Arne Slot stated that Isak will be used in the same way as the Swedish head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson did against Kosovo. The new Reds signing was introduced as a late substitute in Sweden’s recent 2-0 defeat against Kosovo. The 25-year-old former Newcastle United striker was coming out of his injury and didn’t play a single match for his new club.
Ahead of Liverpool’s Sunday match against Burnley, Arne Slot said “We will treat Alex the same as they did. Don’t expect him to be every single game 90 minutes on the pitch. That’s definitely not going to happen in the upcoming weeks. He missed a proper pre-season, he missed three or four months of team sessions.”
But Slot also hinted that the Swedish striker might make his Liverpool debut against Burnley in Turf Moor on Sunday. Slot also further added that “We have to build him up gradually, with us playing so many games, hardly any training time, that’s going to be a challenge. But we haven’t signed him for the upcoming two weeks, we’ve signed him for six years, so this is what we have to keep in mind and what the fans have to keep in mind …”
Slot on missing out on Guehi
On the last day of the summer transfer window, the Reds were also very close to signing the Crystal Palace and English defender Marc Guehi, but the deal for the English centre back fell through in the last minute.
Liverpool’s Dutch manager also highlighted on missing out on Marc Guehi and said “We would have liked to have signed him, of course. If we feel we can strengthen the team we never hesitate to do so. It’s not like all of a sudden we don’t have options in that position.”
He also praised the Crystal Palace player and further added “But he’s in a good place, playing for Palace, where he won the Charity Shield and the FA Cup with a very good manager as well. Let’s see what the future brings.”
