Weather Warning: Showers Expected Over Durga Puja Days in Bengal

4 September-Kolkata, India: Unfortunately for those who like puja, there will probably be periods of rain in Kolkata and a lot of Bengal over the Durga Puja days.

Moonsoon may collide in Durga Puja days

People consider that the monsoon season moves away from the start of October, but this year Durga Puja will start at the end of September, which is a bad thing for the puja lovers, as the monsoon season will still be going on, i.e., the rainy days will destroy the festive mood.

Weather forecasts indicate that South Bengal could have thunderstorms with light to moderate rain in a number of districts, along with gusty winds in coastal areas, while it is still too early to pinpoint exactly how much rain will fall on particular days.

South Bengal to face more rainfall

This week’s predicted temperature increase of three to four degrees will increase the humidity and discomfort. Although a minor decrease in rainfall may occur starting on Friday, weather forecasts still expect Jhargram, East and West Midnapore, and South 24 Parganas to see sporadic showers.

Rainfall will lessen throughout the weekend, but hot weather will make the holiday days miserable. Meteorologists expect the likelihood of thunderstorms in East and West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and North 24 Parganas to rise once more by Monday.

North Bengal to experience more showers

Although there will be less rainfall in North Bengal starting today, meteorologists still predict thunderstorms and light to moderate showers for districts like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Malda, and North Dinajpur.

There will be sporadic rains in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar by Friday and Saturday. Rainfall will intensify once more starting on Sunday, especially in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, and it will extend to neighbouring districts on Monday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar by Tuesday.

Throughout the whole Durga Puja celebration season, Kolkata will see high humidity with alternating cloudy and clear skies. However, small showers may bring relief to the people, but heavy showers might disrupt the festive mood with the rising cases of waterlogging, etc.

Even though the forecast predicts less precipitation throughout the weekend, the weather will worsen, making this year’s Durga Puja a steamy and soggy event.
