PM Modi Expresses Grief Over Monsoon Devastation in 125th Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi, August 31 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the widespread destruction caused by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts triggered by incessant monsoon rains across India. Speaking in the 125th edition of his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister highlighted both the human and infrastructural losses while conveying solidarity with the affected families.

“In this monsoon season, natural disasters are testing our nation. In recent weeks, floods and landslides have caused massive havoc. Homes have been destroyed, fields submerged, entire families affected. Bridges and roads have been washed away, and lives endangered. These incidents sadden every Indian,” Modi said, adding that the nation collectively mourns the loss of lives.

Commending Rescue and Relief Efforts

PM Modi praised the relentless efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), armed forces, and local volunteers in conducting rescue and relief operations. He noted that modern technology, including thermal cameras, sniffer dogs, drones, and helicopters, played a crucial role in saving lives and delivering relief.

“Wherever there was a crisis, our personnel worked day and night to save lives… I sincerely thank all citizens who prioritized humanity during these difficult times,” the Prime Minister remarked.

Achievements in Jammu & Kashmir Amid Crisis

Despite the devastation caused by monsoon rains, PM Modi highlighted two milestones achieved in Jammu and Kashmir. Pulwama hosted its first-ever day-night cricket match under the Royal Premier League, drawing a record turnout of spectators. Meanwhile, Srinagar’s Dal Lake witnessed the successful Khelo India Water Sports Festival, with over 800 athletes — including a near-equal number of women participants — competing.

Madhya Pradesh topped the medal tally, followed by Haryana and Odisha. Congratulating the athletes, Modi also shared conversations with participants Rasmita Sahoo from Odisha and Moshin Ali from Srinagar.

Launch of Pratibha Setu Portal

In a major announcement, the Prime Minister launched the Pratibha Setu portal to support UPSC aspirants who narrowly miss the final merit list. The platform will enable private companies to access candidate profiles and offer suitable job opportunities.

“The UPSC Civil Services exam is among the toughest in the country. Many bright candidates miss selection by a small margin. Now, their talent will not go to waste,” he said.

Remembering Sardar Patel Ahead of Hyderabad Liberation Day

With Hyderabad Liberation Day approaching in September, PM Modi paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s leadership during Operation Polo, which led to Hyderabad’s integration with India in 1948.

“Hyderabad was suffering under the Nizam and Razakars. Sardar Patel’s firm decision and leadership ensured the swift liberation of Hyderabad,” the Prime Minister recalled.
