Mahua Moitra’s Controversial Statement

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra sparked a storm with her remark against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. While speaking on infiltration issues, she said Amit Shah’s “head should be cut off and placed on the Prime Minister’s table” if he failed to stop illegal entry. The statement quickly drew sharp criticism across political lines.

BJP’s Strong Response

The Bharatiya Janata Party immediately condemned the remark. Leaders called it hateful, irresponsible, and unbecoming of a Member of Parliament. BJP spokespersons demanded strict action against Moitra and questioned whether the statement represented the official stance of the TMC. They also accused her of promoting hate in political discourse.

Police Complaint Filed

Soon after the uproar, BJP leaders in Nadia district lodged a formal police complaint against Mahua Moitra. The complaint, filed at Kotwali police station in Krishnanagar, alleged that her statement incited violence and insulted a constitutional authority. Party workers also staged demonstrations demanding her apology and suspension.

TMC Yet to Respond

Despite the rising controversy, the Trinamool Congress leadership has remained silent. The party has not clarified whether it endorses Moitra’s statement or distances itself from it. This silence has fueled BJP’s attacks, as leaders insisted that the TMC must explain its position on such extreme language.

Political Reactions and Debate

The remark triggered a larger debate on political decency. BJP leaders argued that such statements reflect a culture of intolerance within the opposition. On the other hand, opposition leaders avoided direct defense but stressed that public discourse should remain civil. The issue has quickly become a flashpoint in Bengal’s already heated political climate.

What Lies Ahead

As the police process the complaint, Mahua Moitra faces mounting pressure to retract her words. Legal experts noted that remarks calling for violence against a constitutional authority could attract serious charges. Meanwhile, BJP leaders announced that they would pursue the matter in both legal and political arenas until accountability is fixed.
