Sourav Ganguly embarks on his first coaching assignment, appointed as the head coach of Pretoria Capitals.
Sourav Ganguly will kick off a new chapter in his career by leading the Pretoria Capitals as head coach in the SA20 2026 season, marking his debut in coaching.

Former BCCI president and ex-Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is preparing to step into coaching for the first time. On Sunday, August 24, he was appointed head coach of the SA20 team Pretoria Capitals ahead of the 2026 season.
Ganguly will take charge as coach of the Pretoria side following Jonathan Trottโs resignation on Saturday, August 23.
“The Prince is ready to add his royal touch to the Capitals camp! We are thrilled to welcome Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach,” the Centurion-based franchise posted on Instagram.
In addition to Ganguly, Shaun Pollock has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Pretoria Capitals.
“A fresh chapter of cricketing brilliance begins for the Capitals, with our new Assistant Coach, Proteas great Shaun Pollock, at the helm,” the Capitals shared on Instagram.
Gangulyโs link to the Capitals and his desire to pursue coaching.
Ganguly has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Capitals franchises. He led Delhi Capitals as team director in the IPL from 2018 to 2019 before stepping down to assume the role of BCCI President.
Last year, Ganguly took on the role of Director of Cricket at JSW Sports. The former BCCI President recently expressed his willingness to coach the Indian team in the future.
“Iโve taken on various roles over time. After completing those, I became the CAB president and then the BCCI president, so I never really had the chance. But who knows what the future holds? Iโm just 50 and open to the idea. Weโll see how it unfolds,” Ganguly said in the interview.
The former Indian captainโs immediate task will be the SA20 auction and reviving the teamโs performance. Last year, the Capitals managed only two wins out of 10 league matches, ending up fifth in the six-team competition.
