Authorities responded quickly, initiating rescue and medical operations.

CRPF Vehicle Accident Kills Three in Udhampur
On Tuesday morning, a CRPF transport vehicle crashed into a 200-foot-deep gorge near Basantgarh in Udhampur. The vehicle was part of a convoy carrying jawans of the 187th Battalion. Three jawans lost their livesโtwo died on the spot, and one succumbed during medical evacuation. The incident happened around 10:15 AM while the convoy was moving on a narrow, hilly road.
According to officials, the truck was heading towards a forward post when the driver lost control on a sharp curve. Preliminary findings suggest brake failure or driver fatigue. Fifteen jawans suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical. All injured personnel were quickly transported to the district hospital in Udhampur.
Swift Response to CRPF Vehicle Accident by Officials
Soon after the CRPF vehicle accident, senior officials initiated immediate rescue efforts. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh called the District Commissioner of Udhampur for a detailed update. He ordered specialized rescue teams and airlift facilities if required. The Army, local police, and CRPF units collaborated to retrieve the victims using ropes and stretchers in difficult terrain.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha offered condolences to the bereaved families. He assured that the injured jawans would receive the best medical care. CRPF Director General Sujoy Lal Thaosen reviewed the situation through continuous updates and has planned a visit to the location.
Terrain and Infrastructure Risks Behind CRPF Vehicle Accident
The region where the CRPF vehicle accident occurred has long been known for its dangerous terrain. The Basantgarh-Kadwa road is narrow, unguarded, and poorly maintained. Accidents are common here, especially in the monsoon season. Experts stress the need for urgent road reinforcement and installation of safety barriers.
Moreover, the routine transportation of jawans through such areas requires newer, better-equipped vehicles. Regular driver rest schedules and vehicle inspections can significantly reduce such tragedies.
Safer Roads for Safer Forces
The CRPF vehicle accident in Udhampur is a grim reminder of the non-combat dangers faced by our forces. Although the prompt rescue efforts saved several lives, it is essential to implement long-term safety reforms. From road audits to vehicle upgrades, every step counts in protecting those who protect us.
India must prioritize infrastructure in border and conflict-sensitive regions. These sacrifices should not repeat due to preventable causes. Honoring the fallen jawans means ensuring safer travel for every soldier who serves.
