Team India’s historic win against England at Edgbaston ,India’s first win in Birmingham in 58 years

On 6th June 2025 ,India defeated England by 336 runs at Edgbaston ,Birmingham, in the 2nd match of the 5th match series of Tendulkar -Anderson Trophy ,and leveled series 1-1 .This victory was India’s first victory win at Edgbaston in 58 years and Captain Shubman Gill’s first victory as a captain ,making it historic .India previously played 8 matches in Birmingham and lost 7 of them ,while drawing one. India set a target of 608 for the hosts .Shubman Gill ,Rishabh Pant ,Ravindra Jadeja helped India declare at 427 for six and set England a humongous target of 608 before Akash Deep and Mohammad Siraj reduced the host to 72 for three at stumps.The hero of the day was Akash Deep ,whose journey from Bihar’s Sasaram to 10 – wicket match haut at one of England’s most iconic venues is the stuff of dreams.
With Jaspreet Bumrah missing ,there were genuine concern over Indian’s ability to pick 20 wickets on a flat surface . Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj rose to the challenge brilliantly .Akash Deep produced inclusive new -ball spell and clever seam movement off the pitch destroy England’s top order twice .His sharp incutters accounted for big names like Joe Root , Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook,while his final day burst ensure England never got close to forcing a draw .
List of records broken by Shubman Gill in second test :
He overtook Virat Kohli’s record (293) for scoring most runs by an Indian captain in a test -430; during the innings ,Gill also broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record(344) of highest match aggregate by an Indian in a Test .
Gill went past Kohli(449) to record the most runs by an Indian in their debut series as captain -585 in four innings.
He became the second Indian to score a double century and century in the same Test after Gavasker .however, he is the first player ever to score a 250 and a 150 in the same test.
He is now only the fifth batter to score more than 400 runs in a Test (430).
Gill’s 269 is seventh highest score by Indian Batter .
269 is the highest score by an Indian captain (previous best : Virat Kohli’s 254* Vs South Africa in 2019);highest score by an Indian batter in England (Previous best : Sunil Gavaskar – 221 Vs England )highest by an Indian captain in away Test (Previous best : 200 Vs West Indies ,2016).
He is the sccond Indian captain to score double century in away Test and sixth Indian captain to score double century ;second-youngest Indian captain to score double century.
He is the fifth player to score double century in both ODIs and Tests after Sachin Tendulkar ,Rohit Sharma ,Virendra Sehwag and Chris Gayle .
During his first innings century ,Gill became the fourth Indian player to score tons in the first two matches since taking charge as skipper after Vijay Hazare ,Gavaskar and Kohli .
