The Supreme Court grants prominent journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao bail and orders his immediate release.

NEW DELHI : Senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao was arrested on June 9 after a panellist allegedly made some offensive remarks about Amaravati ladies. The Supreme Court (SC) granted bail and ordered his immediate release.
The release of 70-year-old Rao, who was arrested on June 9, was ordered by a half working-day bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan. The judge noted that Rao did not make the statement on his show and that one of the panelists was responsible for the claimed disparaging remarks.
The bench questioned the Andhra Pradesh government about the arrest and stated that Mr. Rao’s fundamental right to freedom of speech and his journalistic rights had to be upheld.
However, the bench requested that Rao refrain from saying anything disparaging on his show or permit others to do so.
On Monday, June 9, 2025, Mr. Rao of Hyderabad was arrested by the Andhra Pradesh Police for conducting a program during which he allegedly made derogatory statements against Amaravati, the state’s new capital.
One of the panelists on a June 6 TV program presented by Mr. Rao made the remarks.
