Broken transformer causing electricity problem in Bihar and dark streets during power outage

Electricity Problem in Bihar Worsens as Transformers Fail Daily, Leaving Neighborhoods in Darkness

The electricity problem in Bihar has become a major concern for residents as old transformers continue to fail almost every day. Overloaded and outdated equipment is unable to carry the increasing power demand, leading to frequent breakdowns. This has resulted in extended power cuts lasting 8 to 10 hours in many parts of the state.

Many neighborhoods are plunged into darkness daily, disrupting normal life and creating hardships for people. “We have no electricity for nearly half the day. Our children find it hard to study, and we cannot keep our businesses running smoothly,” said Ramesh Kumar, a shopkeeper from Patna. “The transformers are weak and blow out so often that we have lost hope of any improvement,” he added.

Impact of the Electricity Problem in Bihar on Daily Life and Economy

Residents also highlighted the impact on essential services. Hospitals, water supply systems, and small industries struggle to operate without reliable electricity. Sunita Devi, a mother of two, shared her worries. “Without power, cooking and household chores become a challenge. It affects everyone, especially elderly people and children,” she said.

The electricity outages have economic consequences too. Small businesses and daily wage workers lose income during power cuts. Street vendors and shops shut down early, reducing earnings. Moreover, the lack of light affects safety at night, increasing risks of accidents and crime.

In some rural areas, villagers rely on kerosene lamps or candles during blackouts, which pose health hazards and fire risks. “We feel like we are living in the past, without basic facilities,” said Sunita Devi.

Causes Behind the Electricity Problem in Bihar: Outdated Infrastructure and Overload

Residents struggle with the electricity problem in Bihar as transformers fail, causing long power outages.

The root cause of the electricity problem in Bihar lies in the outdated electrical infrastructure and increasing load. With more households connecting to the grid and small industries expanding, the old transformers are pushed beyond their capacity. Experts explain that transformers are designed to handle a certain load, but continuous overload causes them to heat up and fail prematurely.

Electrical engineer Ajay Singh said, “Most transformers in Bihar are over 15 years old and have not been upgraded or maintained properly. This makes them vulnerable to breakdowns, especially during peak demand in summer and winter.”

He added, “Replacing transformers every other day is neither practical nor cost-effective. The government must invest in upgrading the entire power distribution system with modern equipment.”

Government Response to the Electricity Problem in Bihar: Promises but Slow Action

Local government officials acknowledge the severity of the electricity problem in Bihar but cite budget constraints and logistical challenges as obstacles. A spokesperson for the Bihar State Electricity Board said, “We are aware of the transformer failures and power cuts affecting citizens. Efforts are ongoing to procure and install new transformers, but it will take time.”

However, many residents remain skeptical about official promises. “We hear promises every month, but the situation remains the same or even worsens. We need immediate action, not empty words,” said Ramesh Kumar.

What Residents Demand to Solve the Electricity Problem in Bihar

Citizens are demanding a comprehensive solution that includes upgrading transformers, improving maintenance schedules, and increasing power supply capacity. They urge the state government to allocate more funds and prioritize electricity infrastructure development.

Experts suggest that adopting smart grid technologies and renewable energy sources could also ease the burden on transformers and improve reliability in the long term.

Meanwhile, residents prepare themselves for long nights without power, hoping for relief soon. The electricity problem in Bihar has become a daily struggle that affects the quality of life and economic wellbeing of thousands.

The situation calls for urgent government intervention to ensure a stable and continuous electricity supply. Without swift action, the cycle of darkness and disruption will continue, leaving communities in despair.
