Pahalgam terror attack live: PM Modi shortened his official visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to Delhi on Wednesday, skipping the official dinner. At the airport, he met with NSA Ajit Doval and EAM S Jaishankar and received a briefing on the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in New Delhi early Wednesday. After cutting short his visit to Saudi Arabia following the Pahalgam terror attack, he took stock of the situation during a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the airport.

PM Modi is likely to hold a meeting of the Cabinet Committee for Security on the Pahalgam terror attack in the first half of the day. Wherein India will formulate its response and defence strategy for the days to come.

Unidentified gunmen have killed at least 26 tourists by opening fire on innocent civilians in Baisaran, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Locals heard gunshots in the area, prompting security forces to rush to the spot. The police said initial reports suggest terrorists may have targeted a site popular with tourists. Security forces have launched an operation at the location, PTI reported.

Prime Minister’s message:

On Tuesday, PM Modi “strongly” condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam and extended his condolences to those who lost their family members. “I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. The Prime Minister posted on X that the government will bring those behind this heinous act to justice and will not spare them. He asserted that their evil agenda will never succeed and affirmed that the nation’s resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and will only grow stronger.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is part of the CCS along with PM Modi, Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah, has cut short her official visit to the US and Peru.

Her office posted on X that she is taking the earliest available flight back to India to stand with the people during this difficult and tragic time.

Rahul Gandhi on the Attack:

Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi personally contacted key leaders on Wednesday. He spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and J&K Congress President Tariq Karra. They discussed the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. Furthermore, he stated that he had reached out to them regarding the incident and received an update on the situation. Moreover, he emphasized that the families of the victims deserve justice and the nation’s fullest support.

India gets support from US, Russia, Israel:

US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed solidarity with India.

US President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He strongly condemned the terror attack. He offered full support to bring the perpetrators of the “heinous attack” to justice.

China offers condolences

Chinese Ambassador to India said in a post on X, “Shocked by the attack in Pahalgam and condemn. Deep condolences for the victims and sincere sympathies to the injured and the bereaved families. Oppose terrorism of all forms.”

The terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead.

Chinese Ambassador to India said in a post on X, “Shocked by the attack in Pahalgam and condemn.

International Tourists Attacked:

Reports suggest that two foreign nationals were among the victims. One was from Nepal and the other from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli responded to the reports. He said they were still trying to verify if a Nepali national was among those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.

Nepal shows strong support to India:

“Deepest condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Nepal stands firmly with India & strongly condemn any & all acts of terrorism. Close coordination is established to verify reports of a Nepali national among the victims & will provide all necessary assistance,” Oli said in a message Wednesday.

Messages of support for India continued to pour in. World leaders condemned the attack.

European Union President Ursula von der Leyen expressed support. French President Emmanuel Macron also condemned the attack. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese joined the global response.

“There is no justification for this violence and Australia condemns it. Our hearts go out to the injured, to those mourning loved ones and to everyone in Australia touched by this terrible news,” Albanese said.

Australia is India’s partner in the Quad grouping. Albanese is scheduled to visit India later this year. He will attend the key Quad Summit. US President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister will also join the summit.
